In February 2011 Thornbury Choral Society will hold a Choral Workshop to raise funds to pay for the performance of works requiring larger forces. This workshop gives local singers an opportunity to get practice with a large choir under conductor Steven Kings' expert guidance and to introduce potential new members to the workings of the choir. The 2011 workshop will be on Saturday February 19th 2011 where the assembled singers will study Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle. This will be rehearsed in the morning and afternoon from 10.30 a.m. with lunch and tea breaks and an open informal performance by the workshop choir will be given at 4.00 p.m. to which the public are invited (with a retiring collection). Lunch will be available and the workshop will be held at Thornbury Baptist Church in Grovesend, just by the main car park. For an application form click here after September 2011.

Absolute Beginners Course

For 46 years Thornbury Choral Society has been putting on concerts of great choral works such as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Orff’s Carmina Burana. The choir sang Bach's St John Passion in May with great success and performed Handel's Messiah last November. An additional 40 singers joined us for Messiah, 25 of whom joined from our recent Absolute Beginners Course. We have recently offered those who would love to experience the enormous satisfaction of singing such works, (but lack the musical skill or confidence to get started), the opportunity to learn the basics before possibly joining the choir.
