South Cotswold Choral Group

Thornbury Choral Society have joined with Cirencester, Fairford, Tyndale, Wycliffe and Yate Choral Societies in a group to discuss mutual choral matters and also to put on performances of larger scale works requiring bigger forces than can normally be afforded by the average sized choral society.

The first of these performances will be of the Verdi Requiem and this will take place in Tewkesbury Abbey on Saturday June 4th 2011 and this performance will be conducted by Nigel Perrin and accompanied by the 80-strong Bristol Concert Orchestra. Soloists will be Sian Winstanley (soprano), Kate Woolveridge (alto), Philip Holtam (tenor) and Gareth Rhys-Davies (bass).

A choir of 200 singers will perform the work and rehearsals will take place at Wycliffe College under Christopher Swain and in Thornbury under Steven Kings. There will be an all day workshop for the whole choir in Thornbury at the Armstrong Hall, Thornbury on Saturday 21st May 2011 and a final rehearsal at Christ the King Catholic Church in Thornbury on Friday 3rd June. Evening rehearsals will be on Thursdays from May 12th onwards in Thornbury and on Tuesdays from May 10th onwards at Wycliffe College. The cost of four rehearsals, the all day workshop and the performance for singers will be £30.
