August 2008

Dear Member,

I’m not certain that we have had a summer, at least not the sort that we hope for each year with blue skies and sunshine day after day. Maybe we’ll have an Indian summer instead! Whatever the summer has been for you, I hope you have had an enjoyable time and are looking forward to the start of a new season with TCS.

The committee had a full and interesting meeting shortly after the AGM to deal with matters arising. With our grant from South Glos, for involving children with music in mind, we have formed a sub-committee to deal with how this may best be achieved. They have made an excellent start and we are hoping to involve children in the Sheiling carols and for some of us to take part in the local school carol concerts.

More details after September when schools start their new term. The main committee also dealt with the issue of copyright, a point raised at the AGM.

June 28th did have blue sky and sunshine and marked the occasion of a very happy day – the marriage of Steven and Helen. I know you will all join with me in wishing them every happiness – and admiring Steven’s shiny wedding ring when we see him again in September!

Last year’s subscription payments method worked very well and made life a lot easier for our Treasurer – please find attached a form for this and remember that if you pay in full you get £5 discount (full or concession members). And so to September. We start our rehearsals on Monday 1st . September with Mendelssohn’s magnificent “Elijah”. There will be a list for Teacher Tapes – CD’s or cassettes - available for £5 hire charge. The concert will be on Saturday 22nd . November at 7.30pm. Please note the slightly earlier time and put it in your diary NOW!! We will be having another Open Evening before our rehearsal on 8th September to welcome any new members, this has proved popular in the past. Wine, fruit juice, tea or coffee and nibbles will be available.

David’s Dawdle will take place on Saturday 13th September (apologies to those of you who may have the 6th in your diaries – please delete!). Meet at the Mill at 6pm for the walk with supper at 7.30. As always, those who don’t want to walk are very welcome to come and “sup”. £10 a head which includes your first drink - all proceeds to TCS. There will be a list on the board at our first rehearsal for you to sign up.

Friends, Patrons and Life Members are all very welcome to come along, too.

Give me a ring if you would like to join us – 01454 260542.
