Dear all

Concert
The comments and reviews from Alison, Steven and our reviewer, Chris Hill, have been sent out separately.  Well done everybody.  Can I add my thanks to the valiant few who helped with setting up and clearing away.  I have wrritten to Thornbury Castle to complain about the fireworks, especially as I have previously asked them to coordinate events with St Mary's.

Social/Quiz
A big thank you to Angela Hughes for organising our Social evening last Monday, which was very successful and good fun.

Carols
Kate Phillipson-Masters is leading the rehearsals and singing at the Christmas Carols and Afternoon Tea event at The Gables in Falfield on Wednesday 17 December.  I attach the list of carols we will be singing.  In the past, there has been a maximum of 30 people at the event.  I have asked if more will be able to go this year.  However, anyone can attend the rehearsals the next two Monday nights (8pm at Thornbury URC).

Most of you will already have got copies of most of these.  You can print them off by visiting this page https://www.thornburychoralsociety.org.uk/dbpage.php?pg=learning&repgroup=Status, choosing each carol under 'Christmas' and downloading the attachments.  There are too many to send with this email.  If you have any trouble with printing, then let me know and I will bring some spare copies.

Workshop 2026
You can now book this online here: https://www.thornburychoralsociety.org.uk/dbpage.php?pg=view&dbase=events&id=194189.  I also attach a booking form if you prefer.  These were distributed in paper form at the last Monday rehearsal.  We will be studying Verdi's Requiem and we will be using the Ricordi version with new English translation by Geoffrey Dunn, although we will be singing the Latin text.

Scores for rehearsals from January and the May 2026 concert
We're using the Ricordi edition of Rossini's Petite Messe Solonnelle, which Steven advised is compatible with the New Novello.  (The library couldn't source the latter for us due to high demand!)

Concerts in Thornbury
I also attach the list of (a) St Mary's Music Monthly Afternoon Concerts on the third Sunday afternoons in 2026, and (b) a list of classical concerts from now until next July in Thornbury and the local area, in case you missed these on Saturday.

Best wishes,
Mike Elcock
